Eighty percent of the time I sit in silence – without saying a word. No requests. No agenda. I simply sit.
Even now, after all these years, I sometimes catch myself thinking – should I be asking for something? And the answer that comes back is always the same. No. Just be here. Just be present.
When was the last time you sat in stillness with no agenda at all? Not to get something. Not to solve something. Simply because you wanted to be still.
If you have never done this – here is where I would start.
Set your phone for five minutes. I know it does not sound long. But it will feel long. Five minutes is your goal.
Sit in silence. Take a couple of slow deep breaths. And say these words quietly in your mind – be still and know. Be still. Be.
What you are doing is letting the speed of your mind slow down.
Think of it like river water in a glass. If you shake it up, you cannot see through it – the dirt and debris cloud everything. But if you let it sit long enough, the sediment settles. And suddenly you can see clearly through it.
The mind is like that.
You are not trying to empty it. You are simply reducing the noise long enough to hear what has been there all along.
Be still and know. Be still. Be.
Start with five minutes. Just five.
